Assistant Compliance Manager

The role
- Support the Senior Compliance Manager in the delivery of functional strategic plans by handling key day-to-day tasks essential to the operation of the Compliance function.
- Helping to ensure that all activities undertaken by the business are conducted in a compliant manner and in accordance with the FCA and PRA.
- Updating and communicating all policies, standards of conduct and procedures to the business; and helping to organise training where necessary.
- Key advisory contact for the business.
- Assisting with the effective functioning of the Compliance Team, ensuring adherence to internal and external deadlines and meeting our regulatory obligations.
- Researching and understanding changes in legislation, and how they would affect the business and communicating changes to the business.
- Responsible for supporting the Senior Compliance Manager in ensuring that all activities performed by HDI UK&I are conducted in accordance with relevant regulations and in accordance with the internal standards and controls of HDI Global.
Key accountabilities
- Monitoring the Compliance Calendar and ensuring that all activities are completed on time.
- Monitor the dedicated Compliance Inboxes to advise, assess and distribute emails to other team members as appropriate.
- Complete the regular Horizon Scanning and draft communications to the business as appropriate.
- Create and publish the quarterly Compliance updates to the business in the Compliance Focus
- Assist the Senior Compliance Manager with management of the Training Schedule and liaising with training providers to roll out training modules as required.
- Regulatory Communications: updating the log with all communications with HDI UK&I’s regulators.
- Compliance Monitoring: Liaise with the Compliance Analyst to input into regular review activity.
- Conduct thematic reviews under the supervision of the Senior Compliance Manager.
- Contact point for sanctions queries from underwriters and other personnel;
- Provide guidance on licensing queries from the business, and effective liaison with legal/compliance colleagues at Home Office and in the team;
- Monitor, review and oversee regulatory change to ensure the necessary regulatory change has been communicated to the business and included within all business processes;
- Input into audits of agencies and the new business opportunity due diligence process
- Input into any Compliance, or other company or regulatory reports.
- Lead by example through seeking out and leveraging diversity in all its forms and to create an inclusive work environment where innovation and fresh perspectives are embedded for the benefit of our people, our business and for the customers and communities that we support.
- Act as point of contact for UK&I’s policy and guideline register, maintain local policy and guideline register and ensure compliance policies are appropriately communicated.
- Provide proactive risk and compliance awareness by reporting any incidents or breaches identified within our compliance requirements.
Skills & experience

Is accountable for own delivery to support the Compliance team’s priorities and objectives. Prioritises deliverables and identifies roadblocks that might affect delivery. Creates a safe environment whereby people feel safe flagging mistakes.

Actively develops own knowledge and capabilities and supports the business as a Subject Matter Expert for Compliance across HDI. Communicating and Influencing Positively impacts the actions and decisions of stakeholders ensuring that they are involved throughout. Negotiates confidently without damaging relationships whilst building support and buy-in for ideas. Adapts communication style depending on audience.
Customer Focus
Develops a deep understanding of the true nature and complexities of HDI’s customer business and uses that understanding to implement ideas and technical expertise. Takes action to ensure that customer feedback is acted on and operational and technical challenges are overcome, so that customer service excellence is not affected. Builds sustainable long-term relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, and highlights opportunities for business development to the Compliance Manager.
Specialist
- Proven experience working in UK Compliance functions.
- Experience within the General Insurance sector desirable.
- Proven experience of sanctions and licensing advisory work.
- Experience of dealing with relevant regulatory bodies (e.g. FCA, Financial Ombudsman Service or overseas Ombudsman services).
- Able to interpret, understand and apply all relevant regulations.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply effectively the minimum standards for dealing with Complaints as determined by UK regulators.
- A high level working knowledge of the UK Regulatory framework, as applied to the General Insurance sector.
- Specific knowledge of FCA and PRA regulation and regulatory change management.
- A collaborative team player who supports team performance and works effectively across business areas to contribute to a strong compliance culture.
